Dimmed From View, but Not  Forgotten

Several stars within the Talladega constellation are now dimmed from view, but not forgotten. As a Talladegan no matter what class year, fraternity, sorority, or major, your footsteps traversed the same campus grass, sidewalks, and buildings as these individuals. Tantamount to this physical connection is an indescribable synergy that binds us together as ‘Degans.

As we celebrate the lives and accomplishments of those departed, take pride in the fact that you also shared the magnificent gift of the Talladega experience, the Alpha Lyre Vega of them all.

Dr. Arthur 'Art' Bacon Class '61
Memorial Service was Monday, November 13, 2023, at 11 AM, Deforest Chapel- Talladega College
West Battle Street, Talladega, AL. Few people can rival the myriad of achievements accomplished by Arthur 'Art' Bacon.
He is truly an unsung artist, activist, scientist, historian, and scholar.  A true crimson and blue Talladegan and a dear friend to many who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was born in West Palm Beach. After High School, he enrolled at Talladega College and majored in biology. Already an avid artist, Bacon enrolled in art courses as electives which were taught by David Driskell. He made news as a Civil Rights activist when during his senior year he was severely beaten for sitting in the “wrong” waiting room—which only increased his determination to succeed at both art and science.
